The Challenge
Heavy Rain, a Washed-Out Culvert, and a Road Breaking Apart
When heavy rain hit a property in Westmoreland, TN, the culvert under its gravel woods road couldn’t keep up. The water washed it out and ran across the road instead of under it, cutting a rough, rocky hole through the roadbed. A washout like this only grows with every storm, and the owner needed the drainage fixed and the road made drivable again before the next heavy rain made it worse.

Our Approach
Pipe, Rock, and a Rebuilt Roadbed
Dennis and the Bigfoot Forestry – Nashville East crew gave the water a proper path under the road. They staged a new corrugated metal pipe, estimated from the photos at about 18 inches, set it across the low spot, and rebuilt the roadbed on top of it. With the Bigfoot rig, the crew spread fresh gravel over the pipe for a smooth, drivable surface, armored the outlet with large rock to form a headwall and rip-rap apron, and shaped the ditch below so runoff carries away from the road.
